I stopped into Sephora to buy something during the VIB sale at the end of last week so that I would qualify for VIB status in 2020. I only had to spend $8 to re-qualify, so I didn’t want to buy online and pay as much for the shipping as for my purchase. I planned to buy another travel size tube/mini of First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Smoothie Skin Priming Moisturizing ($14) that I used up last week (discussed here). My local Sephora didn’t have it in the store, and the SA, a woman of about my own age, was such a jerk about it. She asked if I needed help, and I told her what I was looking for. She said Sephora didn’t carry the travel size. I told her I had definitely purchased the travel size at a Sephora, maybe it was the Boston store, and that it was with the other impulse purchase/travel size products near the checkout. I asked her if she could order it for me and ship it for free. She said they only did that for products they carried in store that were out of stock. I said never mind, I would buy it at Ulta or on the FAB website, both at a deeper discount than the 15% I would receive from Sephora. Sheesh. (About 15 minutes later, she returned and said she could order it for me.)
I decided to browse the store just to see what’s new. My local Sephora moved their Sephora liquid lipstick display to an end-aisle where it is more visible. There was a sign that called out new glossy Cream Lip Shine, an off-shoot of its popular Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick. Sephora Collection Cream Lip Shine doesn’t dry down like the original Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick that is creamy on application but becomes matte-ish after a while (reviewed here). I’m so happy that lipgloss is finally having a moment again! Opaque glosses are my jam, and that’s what the Cream Lip Shine collection seems to be. There is a nice variety of shades from neutrals to vivids to reds in 10 regular and 5 metallic finishes. This line has a silver top at the wand rather than black.
I swatched almost 10 shades on my hand trying to decide which one to buy. The thing that impressed me immediately was that like the traditional Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick, the Cream Lip Shine is also a stain, though some shades stain more than others. Some of the shades that I swatched didn’t want to budge even with makeup remover. But letting the remover sit for a minute, I was finally able to get the color off of my hand.
Since I have a million lipsticks, I was trying to find a shade that was at least a little bit different from what I already own. I was drawn to my typical mauves and reds, but fortunately I noticed a shade that looked like a metallic orange-red.
It’s called Frosted Peach, shade #30, and I think it’s a misnomer. It isn’t peach that I think of as a light color, almost a pastel. It’s a metallic coral, a perfect autumn or winter shade.
It’s not “frosted” like the pearlized shades of the ’60s and ’80s, it’s metallic. There’s a difference.
Frosted Peach does provide some stain on my lips, but not as much of a stain as the red shades. Nevertheless, even after eating it does look like I have color on my lips.
The formula is glossy, smooth, highly pigmented, opaque, and quite long lasting. It’s not overly sticky. I haven’t had any issues with bleeding. It does have some transfer onto a glass or cup (in spite of what it says on the Sephora website) because it is a gloss and not a liquid matte. It doesn’t have a strong fragrance, though if I sniff the doe-foot applicator, it does have a slight sweet scent that I don’t smell at all on my lips. I find it easy to apply. It’s cruelty-free.
In addition, the formula contains avocado oil and vitamin E for lip comfort. I love the feel of this formula. Here I am wearing Frosted Peach without makeup, a couple of days post eye surgery.
At $14 for 5 ml/0.169 fl.oz., I think the Sephora Collection Cream Lip Shine is priced well. I like it as much as the more expensive Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipgloss. I expect to buy more Cream Lip Shine shades in the future.
